"A Price to Pay" by Leah Nelson
My Dad is a great person; he’s my hero. But his home life growing up wasn’t all that easy. His parents loved him, but alcohol had a strong grip on their life. My dad started using alcohol around the age of ten. The next year, he started using various drugs from the influences of friends. He went through a stage of his life where he was completely out of control. It was all parties, drugs and alcohol. He went through 40 jobs, 30 girlfriends, and six times in jail in one year. He was even homeless for awhile. He had hit an all time low. He found the one thing that could save him from a life of complete disparity, God. He joined an AA meeting, where he met my mom. Then they got married.
After about 12 years into there marriage, my Dad all of the sudden put on tons of weight and was always tired. My Mom got worried about him and made him go into the doctor. They ran some blood tests and found out he had Hepatitis C, from the dirty needles he had used in his drug use. Hepatitis C is a blood born disease that attacks the liver. It is chronic, which means you usually have it for the rest of your life.
When my Dad was using drugs, all he wanted to do was have fun but he had no idea what affect it would have on the rest of his life. I know my dad regrets that with all his heart and even though my Dad is a great person, he still has a price to pay.
When faced with the decision whether or not to do drugs, say no because the consequences are no joke.
