The Change Direction program provides education to youth who have low level drug, alcohol & tobacco offenses. Typically youth are referred to the Change Direction class in lieu of attending court.  In some cases youth who attend court will also be required to attend a Change Direction class.

Parents are required to attend the Change Direction class also and will receive valuable information as well as an opportunity to talk with other parents who share similar concerns about youth and substance abuse.

The Change Direction program offers judges, probation officers and social service agencies a proven and effective alternative to fines, probation or jail time. For parents and schools, Change Direction can help get someone back on the right track.

Violations suitable for referral include:

First time alcohol and marijuana offenses Underage alcohol consumption and possession Underage drinking and driving Possession of a minimal amount of marijuana Underage purchase or use of tobacco The Hubbard County Change Direction class is offered on the third Monday of every other month.  Classes are held in the basement of the Hubbard County Courthouse located at 301 Court Ave, Park Rapids.  If youth cannot attend a Change Direction class in Hubbard County, they also have the option to attend a Change Direction class in another city.
